Kole Having Fun With the Instructor
Kole started obedience with Adele Yunck at Northfield Dog Training right out of puppy class. We went through Fundamentals of Obedience, Maneuvers, Heeling, and are now in Intro to Competition type classes where we meet and work on whatever we need the most work with. Kole is also in a Rally Obedience class.
I’m including Kole’s Schutzhund evaluation in this section. He was evaluated at 13 weeks and I think the pictures demonstrate why the evaluator thought he did great :-).

KING KOLE STARTS OBEDIENCE
June 29-30, 2007
Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT)
Kole was entered in six Rally obedience trials at Northfield Dog Training in Ann Arbor, Michigan. We went into the ring for the first time on Friday afternoon and Kole took a 1st place with a score of 199. He followed with a 2nd place in the second trial and another 2nd place in the first trial Saturday morning. This is his first obedience title. There were fairly large classes made up of A (no title earned) and B (title already earned)—22 teams showed in the last trial. His title is an RL1. There are 1-5th level placements for both classes. With APDT, there are three levels. The RL1 level was on lead. RL2 and RL3 are off lead and have more complicated exercises that make up the 18 stations. There are quite a few options for showing and for earning championships with this organization—the first one to introduce the sport of Rally. When we show in Level 1 (Novice) again, he will be earning championship points and shows in the B class.
Kole is just 17 months old and I believe he could be a great obedience dog if his handler stops making so many mistakes.
We had a great time and I’m excited to continue with Rally and to also start with another new group called C-WAGS (Canine work and games). They introduced their program in Cleveland last weekend and held trials in conjunction with the APDT Rally there and here in Ann Arbor. C-WAGS consists of some of the advanced exercises in obedience, but is an interim step to prepare for the ring—some exercises are also combined with Rally. The fun of it is you get to have ring experience, compete, earn titles, and get more comfortable with all the exercises. It is in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere.

We attended a Rally Obedience Camp in July 2008 at Houston’s Country Dream with Marsha Houston. We had a blast. Kole earned a couple of legs toward his CW-OB1 and his Zoom Rally title. Then, at our AWSA National, Kole completed his OB1 title and earned another leg toward his Zoom Rally title. We earned two firsts and a fourth.
